- Annual plan renews at a higher price than the first year offer
The two plans
Audible now sells two plans in the US. Standard costs $8.99 a month and lets you choose one audiobook a month from the full collection. That book stays available while you are a member, but it does not roll over and it locks if you cancel.
Premium costs $14.95 a month. You get one credit a month that buys any title to keep, plus access to the Plus Catalog, a large included library of select audiobooks, Audible Originals and podcasts. Premium is also sold annually at $149.50.
Credits, rollover and expiry
Premium credits roll over from month to month, but each one expires twelve months after it was issued. Credits also disappear the moment you cancel, so spend them before you leave. Books you bought with credits or cash stay in your library for good.
Real cost over a year
Twelve months of Premium on the monthly plan costs $179.40 before tax and gives you twelve owned books plus whatever you listen to in the Plus Catalog. On the annual plan the first year is $149.50. Standard works out at $107.88 a year for twelve books you can only keep while subscribed.
Audible versus Audiobooks.com
Both charge $14.95 for a monthly credit. Audible wins on catalog depth and the included library. Audiobooks.com wins on the free trial, with three books instead of one credit, and on Member Deals that turn one credit into two books. I compare them in detail on the head to head page.
