Best if you already pay
Spotify review
Fifteen hours of audiobooks a month are a lovely bonus inside Premium, but heavy listeners will hit the limit fast.

What I like
- No extra app or subscription if you already have Premium
- Music, podcasts and audiobooks in one library
- Books you buy outright do not use your hours
- Offline downloads work like any other Spotify content
What could be better
- Hours are counted at normal speed even if you listen faster
- Unused hours expire every month
- Student plan gets no audiobook time
- Family and Duo members cannot use the manager's hours
How the hours work
Premium Individual subscribers in the US get 15 hours of audiobook listening a month. On Duo and Family plans, only the plan manager gets the hours. Time is measured at normal playback speed, so finishing a five hour book at double speed still uses five hours, and relistening uses time again.
When the hours run out you can add Audiobooks+, a monthly add on with more time, or buy a one time top up that stays valid for twelve months. Books you buy outright never use your hours.
Is fifteen hours enough
The average novel lands somewhere between ten and fifteen hours, so fifteen hours covers roughly one book a month. Epic fantasy and long biographies often run past twenty hours and will need two months or a top up.
Who should choose a dedicated app
If you listen at speed, finish more than one book a month, or want books that stay yours, a credit service such as Audiobooks.com or Libro.fm is the better fit. If you mainly want free books, Libby costs nothing with a library card.
